The Costume Institute Gala (or Costume Institute Ball), known as the Met Ball and nicknamed the "Oscars of the East Coast", is an annual ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum's (The Met) fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The red carpet evening is considered to be a sighting of the stars and other influential icons who were all dressed to impress the fashion world and the public.

The much anticipated event is hosted by Vogue which was regarded as the top annual social event in New York City. The ball starts in a red carpet followed by a cocktail hour and a formal dinner. This year, The Metropolitan Museum’s Gala is celebrated through the theme of Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada.
